Calgary Siding Solutions installs and repairs siding from our office at 123 Everwoods Green SW in Evergreen, southwest Calgary. The work is James Hardie fibre cement, vinyl and LP SmartSide, aluminum, metal panels, cedar and stone veneer; the house wrap, rain screen and exterior insulation that go behind them; soffit, fascia and trim; and repairs after hail, wind and rot.
Most of what makes siding last is hidden once the job is finished: the membrane laps, the flashing over a window, the gap left above a Z-flashing. So we explain the wall assembly in plain English, install to the manufacturer’s published instructions, and check the layers before the siding covers them.
How We Work
Find the water first
Cracked siding is a symptom, and so is a stained or soft wall. Before we price new cladding we look for how water is getting in: a missing kickout flashing, a window head with no flashing, siding buried in a garden bed. The recommendation follows the cause.
The wall behind the siding matters
Siding is the first line of defence, not the only one. Behind it, the sheathing membrane and flashing catch the water that gets past and send it back outside. When old cladding comes off, that layer and the sheathing are checked and repaired before anything new covers them.
Installed to published instructions
Fibre cement, vinyl, engineered wood and metal each come with the manufacturer’s published installation instructions for clearances, fastening, joints and cut edges. We install to them, because that is how the product was evaluated, and a manufacturer’s warranty can depend on it.
Honest about materials and hail
No siding is hail-proof, and none carries a hail rating the way roofing does. Fibre cement, metal and engineered wood resist hail far better than vinyl, yet vinyl is still sound value on plenty of houses. We lay out the trade-offs plainly, including when the cheaper option will do.
Code as the floor, permits left to the authority
Alberta currently enforces the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, and we build to it. Whether a re-side needs a permit is decided by the municipality, not by us: the City of Calgary, the Town of Okotoks, the City of Airdrie, the Town of Cochrane or the City of Chestermere. We confirm before work starts.
Stopping when it is another trade’s job
If the sheathing comes off and the framing behind it is damaged, that is structural work, and it goes to the right trade or an engineer first. On larger condo and commercial buildings a design professional sets the cladding specification, and we build to it rather than guess.
